Preserving Historic Properties

The State Historical Society of Iowa operates the CLG Program, which offers financial and technical assistance to preserve historic properties such as - building, structures, sites, neighborhoods, and other places of importance in the historical and cultural life of the nation. A "Certified Local Government" may apply for grants that can be used for survey and inventory of historic structure, survey of local prehistoric and historic archeological resources, the preparation of nominations of local properties to the National Register of Historic Places, activities related to comprehensive planning, testing archeological sites to determine significance, and programs for public education in historic preservation.
