The purpose of this
project is to address an immediate need in the City of Delta to replace
water mains that are part of an old and deteriorated water system built
in the 1950’s. The total cost of the project is $641,440. A $300,000
federal Community Development Block Grant was awarded to the city to
help complete this project. Remaining costs will be paid through a loan
awarded to the city through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The scope of work
involves all activities identified under Phase II of a preliminary
engineering report prepared in 2002. Major work activities include:
installation of 13,750 linear feet (LF) of 6-inch PVC water main, 6
connections to existing mains, 22 6” gate valves, 3,500 LF of water
service line, 20 hydrants, replacement of 250 tons of granular surfacing
and 1,740 square feet of concrete walks and drives.
Work activities will
be focused in the east ½ of the city. Project boundaries (from east to
west) the east corporate boundary to Highway 21, and (from north to
south) South 6th Street to 2nd Street
(north-south). See project location map.
The majority of the
work will involve water main replacements that parallel existing lines
located along unimproved roadways. However parts of the project also
involve looping and new extensions of mains along city streets in
existing undisturbed right of way.
A Phase I water
improvements project was completed in the Spring of 2006; that project
replaced all water lines in the west ½ of the city. |
