Project Description |
The Davis County
Daycare Board first identified the need for this project in 1996. The
existing operation served only 20 children, and had a growing waiting
list. However, the building that housed the daycare was an old railroad
depot owned by the city and there were many problems with the facility.
Issues with the small building caused overcrowding and provided no
storage; lead-based paint posed problems for rehabilitation, and the
site did not allow for expansion.
After many
meetings, surveys, and a feasibility study, plans for a new daycare
building were formed. The Board brought in partners with the USDA Rural
Development, Area 15 Regional Planning Commission, SIEDA Headstart
Program, and the City of Bloomfield to help implement a plan of action.
Funding from the Iowa Community Development Block Grant Program, USDA
Rural Development, and RACI was applied for and received.
The new Davis County
Daycare building opened its doors for service on August 15, 2005. The
7,000 square foot daycare facility is licensed to serve 102 children.
The building is ideally located adjacent to the elementary, and high
school buildings in Bloomfield, Iowa. |
